How Your Donations Support Us

FOJT Venmo

FOJT is 100% supported by donations from climbers and event proceeds.  Keep the voice of climbing strong and effective by sending us a tax-deductible donation.  All donations will get a receipt in return mail, and sign up for our occasional e-newsletters and climber alerts. Provide our EIN #33-0447380 with your tax preparer.

Currently FOJT is supporting a multitude of projects including:

JTNP Climbers CoffeeClimbers’ Coffee

The  most visible to you is Climbers Coffee every Saturday & Sunday 8-10 am at Hidden Valley Campground in Joshua Tree National Park, during the climbing season. We’ve been supporting this program for over 10 years and the original sponsor of Climbers Coffee in the Park.

JTNP Climbers StewardsClimbing Stewards

Another is the new-ish Climbing Steward program at JTNP. The stewards live in Hidden Valley campground throughout the season and monitor climbing activity in the park. Additional duties include assisting resources management with plant surveys , trail restoration, climbing closures and cultural site monitoring. They answer questions from the public and make Joshua Tree a better place to climb.

Fixed Anchor Replacement in the Park

Supporting qualified and permitted bolt replacement is another long term project in Joshua Tree National Park that FOJT supports. Some of the hardware, placed in the 70’s,  was small, sometimes homemade and not up to today’s standards.  By some estimates there are over 10,000 bolts in the park.  There is a lot of work to do and it isn’t cheap.  Bolt replacement is very gear intensive requiring drills , ropes, tools (including unique custom-made tools), brushes, chains, bolts and hangers, haul bags , slings and more.

JTNP Gear LibraryGear Library

FOJT is building a gear library for our yearly Climb Smart gathering and use of local organizations in need. This would enable FOJT to supply harnesses, helmets & shoes to participants and guides who may not have all the gear they need.

As you can see, your donation dollars are put to good use.  FOJT has only one very part-time staffer, so a very high percentage of donation dollars go directly to programs in service to the Park, community and the region.

Corporate Support

If you work for or own a company that would like to support Friends of Joshua Tree, please contact us. We are always in need of gear donations (stuff we can turn into cash support at our events, raffles, and auctions), food (stuff we can feed people at our events), or just about anything else. Be creative and be helpful.  The JOSAR garage project is high priority so your support is especially needed now.  Get in before the end of this year to maximize your tax-deductible contribution in this calendar year (FOJT is a 501 c(3) organization, founded in 1991).
