Climbing became a keystone and formative part of Clay’s life in 2001 when he moved to Durango and immediately fell in love with crags, desert towers, and big walls throughout the west… he has lived and climbed coast to coast, and numerous locations worldwide. Remote wilderness climbing has a particularly special place in his heart.

Clay is a dedicated recreation professional with over 20 years of experience designing and managing public programs, facilities, and community partnerships. As Recreation Supervisor for the Town of Yucca Valley, California, he oversees aquatics, special events, the Youth Commission, and the Town’s new public art program, while also contributing to the planning and design of new parks and recreation facilities.

Clayton is committed to expanding inclusive, high-impact programming for underserved populations, and believes municipal recreation should be a driving force for equity, engagement, and connection in every community.
