Since moving to Joshua Tree in 2016, Sarah has followed her curiosity down many rabbit holes that have allowed her to cultivate deep relationships with the cultural and ecological resources that define the high desert. As a grassroots educator and (mostly) self-taught naturalist, Sarah has spearheaded a variety of desert-centric initiatives, including community dinners focused around wild desert plants, plant identification hikes, and the occasional desert-themed trivia night. Sarah gleefully guides day and overnight hiking experiences with Wandering Mojave Hiking Services, leads courses with Joshua Tree National Park Association’s Desert Institute, and facilitates outdoor education programs with local youth through Joshua Tree Residential Educational Experience. When not in Joshua Tree National Park for work, she spends her free time there too, as a volunteer member of the local search and rescue team, and of course as a climber!
